The Enart festival as it's known today has an interesting history. The event was originally established in 1999 under its current name, but its origins date back further. Before it was the Enart, the festival was called the Festival Gaúcho de Arte e Tradição (FEGART), a name that was used starting in 1986. The festival's organization was assumed by the Movimento Tradicionalista Gaúcho (MTG) in 1985, which continues to run it today.
