Shortly after Sigaram Thodu hit theaters, a pirated version of the film appeared on Tamilyogi. The print was often a "cam rip" (recorded secretly inside a cinema hall) or a leaked DVD screener. Within weeks, the film was available for free download or streaming in multiple qualities—360p, 720p, and even 1080p.
Adding to the film's spectacle, Vikram Prabhu trained at the Vandalur Police Academy with guidance from real officers. The shooting began on 6 May 2013 at the Chandi Devi Temple in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
