Look at the green motherboard. You will see a silver, coin-shaped CR2032 battery (similar to a watch battery).

Store the new password securely in a physical notebook or an encrypted digital password manager.

This method clears the volatile memory containing system settings. Power off the DVR and unplug it.

Leave the unit completely unpowered for 10 to 15 minutes. Alternatively, take an insulated wire or metal screwdriver and touch the positive (+) and negative (-) metal terminals inside the empty battery housing simultaneously for 10 seconds to drain remaining power from the system RAM.

If the DVR does not offer a GUI reset option, or if it is not connected to the internet, the most common fix is using a "Super Password" generator. Multistar DVRs often run on software architectures similar to generic XMeye or HiChip-based systems.

Look at the screen of your DVR and find the date it displays. Note: If the date is wrong, it will not work.

If your DVR lacks a reset button, removing the CMOS battery will force a factory reset, clearing the password. the DVR and open the casing. Locate the coin-sized CMOS battery on the motherboard. Remove the battery carefully.
