Lucky Philip Dube was born in Ermelo, South Africa, on August 3, 1964. Raised by his mother and grandmother, his given name "Lucky" symbolized hope after several failed pregnancies. Initially performing traditional Zulu mbaqanga music, he made a pivotal switch to reggae in 1984 after being inspired by the politically charged lyrics of Peter Tosh. His first reggae album, Rastas Never Die , sold poorly, but his follow-up, Think About The Children (recorded without his label's permission), became a major hit. Its success empowered Dube to fully commit to reggae and use his music as a platform for social change.
Lucky Dube’s tragic passing in 2007 left a void in the global music community, but his extensive catalog continues to educate and inspire. From his early struggles against state censorship to performing on the world’s biggest stages, his music remains a testament to the power of resilience. lucky dube albums zip
