In 1998, Michael Cretu released a side project called Energy of Sound under this moniker. It features high-tempo electronic covers of classic songs and is considered an essential adjacent piece to the Enigma discography.

Tracks seamlessly cross-fade into one another, turning each album into a single, uninterrupted musical journey.

The Shift. Here, Enigma stepped away from the chanting monks. The production is cleaner, more modern, and leans heavily into pop and trance influences. It marks the end of the "classic" Enigma sound.

Shifting away from medieval European chants, Cretu turned his focus toward global indigenous cultures for Enigma’s second outing. The Cross of Changes replaced church choirs with Native American and Sami chants, utilizing a more rock-infused rhythm section and prominent electric guitar samples.
