Some versions of the text state that the goddess is born directly from the forehead of Shiva, while others describe her as a form of Adi Shakti (the primordial cosmic energy) who manifests specifically to annihilate Daruka.

Bhadrakali, aided by the forest spirit Vetala, engaged Darika in a fierce battle. Vetala spread his tongue to catch Darika's blood, preventing new demons from rising from every fallen drop.
